A FORTNIGHT OF THE BLUES!

Take advantage of these educational events leading up to the Portsmouth Blues Festival, made possible in part by a special grant from the Fleet Boston Charitable Foundation. Then, the night before the festival, don't miss our special Roots Blues concert at the Unitarian Church. Here are the details.

August 4, 7, 11, & 14
11:00-noon. Jug Band class for children 8-12 years old. Students will learn how to play the kazoo and homemade instruments, and then perform in the children's area at the Portsmouth Blues Festival. All four classes, $50.
August 7
7:00-9:00 pm. Blues guitar workshop for intermediate/advanced players, taught by T.J. Wheeler. Beginners welcome. $20 adults; $20 students.
August 11-13
6:00-7:00 pm. Flamenco guitar and percussion classes taught by acclaimed flamenco guitarist, James Cohen. All three classes, $100.
August 13
7:00 pm. Latcho Drom, movie about the history of flamenco music and the Gypsy diaspora. Discussion led by James Cohen. Donation suggested.
August 14
4:00-6:00 pm. Blues & Jazz drumming workshop presented by Gordon Grottenthaler, drummer for T.J. Wheeler & the Smokers. $25.

August 15 -- Roots Blues Concert
7:30 pm. Friday Acoustic Concert at the Unitarian Church on State St., Portsmouth. Featuring three North Carolina artists who will not appear at the Portsmouth Blues Festival: John Dee Holeman, Algia Mae Hinton & Lightnin' Wells, all Music Maker Relief Foundation artists. Plus flamenco guitarist James Cohen, and T.J. Wheeler. Tickets $10 at the door ($8 with purchase or presentaton of Blues Festival ticket.)
